Hello, thank you for visiting the Covington First Church of God website. I am Terry Walton, and I am blessed to be the pastor of this congregation of the Church of God which has a history dating back to 1926.

Some may wonder why I would desire to be a pastor, especially during these crazy mixed-up times we are living in.

When God told me that I was to be a pastor, I was only in the fourth grade. Our school had a career day. that week I believe God spoke to me in regards to His calling me into the ministry. However, as we all seem to do, I tried to work around it and headed off to college with the thought of being an architect. That did not last long, as I had to adjust my plans, which was only leading me more toward His plans. I got married and almost a year later became a dad. I moved my plans to more of a role in which I could support my growing family, and put off college for another day.

Then came an opportunity to do ministry in our church summer camps. This led me to be challenged by another leader of the camp to rethink my ministry calling. So, I went home spoke with my pastor, and began the process toward being an ordained pastor. Little did I realize that throughout the next 20-plus years, that process became a roller coaster ride of setbacks and restarts. I truly believe the devil did not want me in the pulpit. Yet here I am today on my second pastorate and doing that which God called me to nearly 45 years ago.
